Ill!!!

Last week had been very hard on the Mrs. Luke came down with a fever on Monday and only recovered from it on Wednesday. During the first night his temperature reached as high as 39 degrees. Instead of sponging him the Mrs put him in the bathtub and left him soaked in there playing with some toys for 15 minutes. It worked and the temperature never reached that high again. Needless to say we had to wake up regularly to check his temperature throughout the next two nights.

The Mrs took leave the whole 3 days to take care of him. This was the first time that she had to care for a sick baby all on her own. Our kids had the usual cough and running nose here and there, now and then but never this ‘serious’.

We’re all lucky in that Isaac only really fell ill after he turned 1 and even then he was no where near half as cranky as Luke. He will just have his medication and sleep with the occasional waking up in the middle of the night crying. It was all manageable. As for Hayley she is only having the occasional running nose but that’s about it (knock on wood).

Luke refused to be put down when he was ill this time. He demanded to be carried almost all the time. Even when he was being carried he will be cranky at times too. So in order not to disturb Isaac and Hayley we sent them along with Ani to my parents’ place as usual and the Mrs stayed at home to care for Luke alone. As for me, I had to attend an international conference so I was not able to help out for all 3 days until the evenings when I'm back.

Even though Luke was sleepy he simply refused to be put down on his bed for naps. The Mrs had to carry him in her arms and let him sleep on her chest. All this while she was not able to get up and do anything. Luckily for her she had her iPhone next to her to she was able to catch up on the news, visit Facebook and serve the internet.

Coincidentally there were a number of Cantonese serial DVDs at home so she was able to catch up with those while Luke lay on her chest sleeping. She even had to skip lunch in order not to wake him up. Between going hungry and having to carry a crying and cranky baby for another few hours, the choice is obvious.

Through this experience the Mrs may have to rethink about being a stay-at-home mum. I honestly believe she now has another level of new found respect for all you SAHM. It is really not easy caring for a sick child. Some of you SAHM even have to take care of your sick child together with a healthy one all by yourself. That to me is a truly remarkable feat. I have not tried it but judging from the exhausted look on the Mrs’s face each evening I don’t think I will be too eager to volunteer my service anytime soon.

I know I have been lagging in posting new pictures of the children so here they are. I have also posted more on my Facebook photo album. Enjoy!

Yes, all this while, i also fully admired FTSAHM without domestic helpers. Personally i know a few..they are really remarkable.

Hayley is such a sweetie and her eyes are beautiful. Luke looks like Issac..haha.

What a picture perfect!!

Hi Astee,

FTSAHM is a full time job indeed. Think they are probably the most patient people on earth.

Hayley does have nice eyes and don't get me started with her lashes. Hahaha

I wonder when will Luke grow out of Isaac's shadow. He still looks quite like his big brother.

Cheers!

Hi Audrey,

Hayley does have very nice and log eye lashes. They curl up also.

Luke is feeling better but Hayley is now recovering from her fever. After I had written this post, she came down with the fever over the weekend.

Hi Soleil,

Thanks for your compliment!

One kid is not enough. Try your best to go for a second one. Slowly work on him if not than use emotion blackmail on him. Hahahaha

DIL exactly like Hayley?! Hmmm….. is that a proposal I hear? Hahahaha

Cheers

Like Luke, cleo will be extremely cranky whenever she fall sick. She will cry and cry and fuss and scream, all that, among other things! It's really quite tiring to take care of her, when she's down. And like what you said, having to take care of a healthy kid(not sick) and fearing that she will fall sick either, certainly doesn't help.

I am now facing another issue myself. Having to train the girls to sleep in their own room. The lack of sleep is really killing...At a loss man...

Hi Nicole,

Hats off to you for doing such a wonderful job for so long.

So how is the training coming along? If they can sleep throughout the night then sleeping on their own will be good. Good luck with that!

Hi Dylan,

Hayley is so pretty! She will need her 2 brothers to fend off all her suitors in future. She really resembles your Mrs in the photos.

Hi Cynthia,

Thank you very much for your compliment. Hayley is pretty and Luke always has this indifferent look but thankfully he smiles a lot more these days.

Funny you mentioned because the kids got ill one after another. First it was Luke then it was Hayley and finally Isaac. Thankfully they did not all fell ill at the same time.

I have so far downloaded only Baby Flash Cards and Voice Toddler Cards for Isaac. Any other good suggestions will be welcomed.

Cheers!

Hi Marie,

Thanks for your compliment. Now that we have posted the pictures we hear more of how much Hayley resembles her mummy although we can’t really tell.

Hope to see you around!

Hi Jolin,

Soon you'll realise that all babies are cute especially your very own! ;p

hey, hang in there.. it's v tiring to care for a sick child, and a blessing amidst this is that Isaac and Hayley have no isuse with staying at ur parents' place.. hope Luke gets well soon!

oh, must say that Hayley is v pretty! :)

Hi Trina,

We are hanging in there alright. We’ll have to hang in there for many years to come.

Actually Isaac and Hayley were at my parents’ place during the day, we still bring them all home in the evening. This is no wonder the germs got spread from one to the next and by now all 3 of them had it and recovered also.

pretty pictures of the kids... Luke really looks like Isaac and Hayley is such a girly girl...

it's really tough when the kids are sick especially when they are young and does not know how to speak yet... Kaelyn just fell ill last week and she was super cranky too... and like Luke i cannot put her down must wait until she is really in deep sleep then can put her down... n she had too much med until she phobia of food even... which for her to reject food is really something drastic... she is a food lover...

just saw ur fb pics... omg the kids are really adorable... can pinch their cheeks? heehee

A Husband's Voice said...

Hi Cecilia,

I’m glad you like the pictures.

I think we are mentally prepared from now on that when one of them is ill it is only a matter of time before the other two get it too. Thankfully it is only Luke who is cranky when ill (knock on wood).

Want to pinch their cheeks? Can. Not a problem. We’re contemplating celebrating the twins’ 1st birthday and you readers can come and say hi if you wish. Still planning stage now.

happyhour said...

ha tell me about it... it's Tricia's turn to be sick now... faint... then next will be my hb and i will be last... it's always in this order.. :(

ah.. another gathering? hmm if i remember correctly all readers super shy never appear at Issac bd party last year right? hehe u sure this year will turn up? althou i would just to pinch the twins cheeks :) hehee wah more reason to ban me from going huh :)

A Husband's Voice said...

Oh dear! You better take care then and hopefully you will not catch the bug. I think there is probably a reason why you always get it last. After having to care for 3 of them when they’re ill your defense mechanism will probably have been weakened so as a result you too fall ill.

Actually I do not think the readers are shy. It’s just that we had it so near to Christmas many families were traveling themselves. I’m not sure if any of the readers will turn up this time but we’ll see. Anyway we should be going ahead with the Twins’ birthday celebration it is only a matter of having an open invitation to more people.

What about you? Would you be interested in coming then?

Hayley is such a darling... Aw.. I want a baby gal too...But can't take the risk of having a third boy.. haha :)

wah u ask like tat already i shy le... if time permits why not
i think it will be mad house having so many kids together at one go :) but hey you LOVE challenges right ;)

A Husband's Voice said...

Hi Von,

All along I was hoping I can father both boys and girls because I believe the parenting will be rather different. I'm glad I'm lucky enough to have them.

I understand your worry but personally I would have tried if I only have 2 but I will definitely draw the line at 3 boys. Hahahaha

Good Luck!

A Husband's Voice said...

Hi Cecilia,

Don’t worry no pressure there. Anyway we have not decided on what to do also.

It will be a mad house if so many kids turn up but I honestly doubt there will be too many readers who will turn up. As for challenges it is not a worry at all for I am fully expecting you parents to watch over your kids! Hahahaha
